We are often asked to make a new clock case to house an
existing movement. Usually the case needs to be made as close
as possible to what the original would have been. This can
involve considerable research and is all part of the design
process that we use when designing and making new furniture.
We use the traditional craftsman's techniques that would
have been available to the original craftsmen so that the
case reflects totally what is believed to be the original.
However “authentic” the result may look we do
not make fakes. Each piece is stamped and dated discretely
on the underside.
Only the best materials are used,- from exotic hardwoods
such as ebony, rosewood, olivewood and mahogany, to English
oak, elm and ash. These timbers can be used both as
a veneer or as solid timber. Experience in selecting woods
is essential if the finished pieces are to stand the test
of time. We also ensure that all our timber comes from sustainable
sources.
We can also supply a selection of good quality mechanical and
electrical movements. This means we can create a very individual
clock which is unique to yourselves.
Examples of our work can be found in homes, public buildings
and churches, where we have made many individual and sometimes
unusual pieces of furniture, in Britain and abroad.
Naturally such individual care lavished on the items we create
cannot be rushed. There are no short cuts to quality.
The following illustrates examples of our work. |
